In January 2011, Young-min Park was appointed the Chief Conductor of Wonju Philharmonic Orchestra. This momentous occasion started a new chapter in the orchestra's history. His first central European debut was performed at the historic Rudolfinum/Dvořák Hall in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. Park conducted the Dvořák Symphony and followed up the performance with another acclaimed exhibition with the Mahler Symphony in Portugal. His greatest success came when he delivered a sublime performance with the Haydn Symphony in the world renowned Musikverein concert hall in Vienna, Austria.Young-min Park started this season with a performance of 'Hamlet' by Shostakovich with the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, a performance of the opera Le Nozze Di Figaro at the Coliseum in Portugal and an appearance at the Aram Khachaturian Hall in Armenia. This season he will go on an international tour to the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Poland, Spain, Lithuania and Japan, to perform Beethoven Symphonies, as well as all the Brahms Symphonies.
Young-min Park has appeared as a guest conductor with various European orchestras including the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Opole Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rzeszow Philharmonic Orchestra, the North Czech Philharmonic, the Nurnberg Symphony Orchestra, the Orquestra do Norte in Portugal and the Budapest Symphony Orchestra Mav. Also he works with major Korean orchestras such as the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the KBS Symphony Orchestra and the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra. He also receives continuous invitations to conduct with various orchestras from Japan, including the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazaw. Park will expand his musical horizons to the broader Asian region including China and Taiwan.
Being the recipient of the Paumgartner Medal from International Stiftung Mozarteum, Young-min Park is well-known for his prominent interpretations of Classic era music. Since 2003, he has been the Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Seoul Classical Players, an orchestra that is fully dedicated to periodical music. Park has rediscovered the composers that have shaped musical history and continues to perform their works with the Haydn Symphony. Young-min Park presented Korea¡Çs premiere of Beethoven No.10, Haydn Symphony series in 2009 and Schubert Symphony series in 2010 with Korea premier of the opera 'Fierrabras' by Schubert.
Young-Min Park was born in Seoul, Korea, where he studied conducting and composition at Seoul National University under Maestro Hun-jeong Lim. When he went abroad to study at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts Morzateum Salzburg (Universitat Morzateum Salzburg) in Austria, he was able to establish his own musical rationale while studying with Maestro Michael Gielen. He was also influenced by Maestro Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Walter Hagen-Groll. Park graduated with the great distinction from Chigiana Academy under the Maestro Myung-Whun Chung in Siena, Italy. Currently Young-min Park is the conducting professor at Chugye University of the Arts, since 1997 at the age of 32.
Recently Young-min Park was invited to an international music festival "La Folle Journee" in Kanazawa, Japan, with the Wonju Philharmonic Orchestra performing renowned symphonies by Beethoven and Schubert. Result of the great success, he received a re-invitation and will be performing with a Japanese Orchestra next season.
