Alexandre Tharaud

Profile

Alexandre's recordings for harmonia mundi, dedicated to the music of Rameau, Ravel, Bach, Satie, Chopin (Waltzes and Preludes), Couperin (the celebrated ¡ÆTic, Toc, Choc') all received great critical acclaim. The Ravel was greeted with the highest awards from the press (Grand Prix de l'Academie Charles - Cros 2003, Diapason d'Or de l'Annee, CHOC du Monde de la Musique, Recommande de Classica and 10 de Repertoire, Pick of the Month-BBC Music Magazine, Stern des Monats-Fono Forum, Best CD of the year - de Standaard).

This resulted in invitations for performances worldwide including Palais des Beaux-Arts/Philharmonie in Brussels, Theatre du Chatelet, Bern's Casino (MeisterZyklus series), BBC PROMS, Theatre des Champs-Elysees, Koln and Essen Philharmonies, Seoul Arts Centre, Oji Hall in Tokyo, Taipei National Concert Hall, Prague Rudolfinum, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, South Bank, Wigmore Hall in London, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Miller Theatre in New York and Washington Performing Arts Series.

Alexandre has been invited to play with international orchestras in Germany, Canada, Japan, Asia (Taiwan, Japan and Singapore), and France under the baton of Yutaka Sado, Jean Fournet, Marc Minkowski, Stephane Deneve, Claus Peter-Flor, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Lionel Bringuier and Georges Pretre.

His knowledge of French music extends beyond the main repertoire and includes contemporary composers such as Thierry Pecou; he premiered and recorded his piano concerto ¡ÆL'Oiseau Innumerable' as well as a series of solo piano pieces. In May 2008, Alexandre gave its first rendition to the ¡ÆHommage a Couperin' programme, in which he combines a selection of Couperin works with tributes by composers Renaud GAGNEUX, Francois-Bernard MACHE, Gerard PESSON, Jacques LENOT, Philippe HERSANT and Philippe SCHOELLER.
