Martin Stadtfeld


Martin Stadtfeld has established himself as one ofthe leading interpreters of Johann Sebastian Bach's music over the last 12 years, winning the first prize at the Leipzig Bach Competition in 2002.
Twoyears later, his debut CD with Bach°«s Goldberg Variations, released by Sony Classical, made it to the top of the classical charts. The recording was compared to the legendary Glenn Gould recording of 1955, and was awarded the ECHO-Klassik.
Following this success, Martin Stadtfeld was honoured with three more Echo-Klassik awards and numerous CDs followed. After his recent recording of works from the London Sketchbook by the 8 year old Mozart and the later Piano Concertos No. 1 & 9, his eagerly awaited CD with Chopin°«s Etudes op.10 and op. 25, linked with Stadtfeld°«s very own improvisations, will be released in November.
Concerts led him to the most important music centers all over the world and he was invited to play with renowned orchestras in Europe, Japan and the United States. Among these were the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Vienna Symphony, the Czech Philharmonic Prague and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. Along with his regular appearances in Germany, Martin Stadtfeld also performed at the Sumida Triphony Hall in Tokyo, the Seoul Arts Center, the National Center of Performing Arts in Peking, the Vienna Konzerthaus and Musikverein, the Zurich Tonhalle, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and others.
Furthermore he is a frequent guest at the Salzburg Festspiele, the Rheingau Musik Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Lockenhaus Festival, the Ljubljana Festival, the International Festival Echternach, the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg and Hohenems as well as the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad.
Conveying an interest in and knowledge of classical music to young children and adolescents is a major priority to Martin Stadtfeld. He regularly visits schools, motivating and inspiring children by talking about his work as a pianist.
