Eitetsu Hayashi

Profile

While attending Tokyo University of the Arts, he won first place in the 7th Japan Percussion Instrument Competition. After graduating, he entered the National Conservatory of Music in Paris and graduated from the saxophone department, chamber music department, and improvisation department with the highest grades. While attending the Conservatory, he won the J = M Rondex International Competition and became the first Japanese saxophonist to win the international competition. He appeared in a regular concert of the French National Bordeaux Aquitaine, in the Sud-Ouest newspaper. In 2000, he made his brilliant debut in Japan with his unique album “Millennium”, which consisted only of his contemporary works and improvisation. He has performed with orchestras such as Yomiuri, Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Dai Philharmonic Orchestra, Fuda Hibiki, and Hirokyo. He also often co-stars with Jazzmen such as Yosuke Yamashita, Satoru Shionoya, and Akiko Grace. His concerts at music festivals in France, Germany, Spain, etc. have been well received every time, and many fans have been waiting for his appearance.

 He has appeared on Nippon TV’s “Midnight Concert”, TV Asahi’s “Untitled Concert”, NHK Classic Club, famous song album, Daiwa Securities CM, DVD “English Poetry Travelogue”, etc. In particular, he has received high praise as a composer for the work “Seven Paintings-Dedicated to Toshio Arimoto” commissioned by Nippon Television “Midnight Concert”. The work has been re-performed in Japan and overseas, and is currently used as the opening theme song for the program.

He serves as a judge for the Japan Percussion Instrument Competition, the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition, and the All-Japan Band Competition. He started Japan’s first improvisation class at Senzoku Gakuen, and is now open at Tokyo University of the Arts. 

He is a part-time lecturer at Tokyo University of the Arts, Elisabeth University of Music, Toho University of Music, and Senzoku Gakuen University of Music. He is a lecturer at Gap International University and Academy Habanera in France.

 

「佐渡・鬼太鼓座」「鼓童」の創設に参加。11 年間のグループ活動の後、1982 年ソロ活動を開始。1984年、初の和太鼓のソリストとしてカーネギー・ホールにデビュー。現代音楽の分野でも国際的に高い評価を得た。2000年にはドイツ・ワルトビューネでベルリン・フィルと共演、2万人を超える聴衆を圧倒させた。
日本はもとより全世界での交響楽団と共演多数。日本の伝統にはなかった大太鼓ソロ奏法の創造、多種多様な太鼓群を用いた独自奏法の創作など、前例のない太鼓ソリストという分野を開拓し、新しい音楽としてのオリジナルな太鼓表現を築きあげている。外務省・国際交流基金・文化庁などから国際友好・交流年には、日本の太鼓音楽、文化紹介のための大型派遣も多い。国境、ジャンルを越えて今なお新たな創作活動に取り組み、広く国内外で活躍中。2016年は演奏活動45周年、17年はソロ奏者として35周年を迎えサントリーホールで記念公演を開催した。
創作太鼓のための委嘱作品なども多く作曲、指導。CD、DVD、ビデオ多数。著書に、増補新装版「あしたの太鼓打ちへ」(羽鳥書店)2017年10月発売。書き下ろし自伝「太鼓日月〜独走の軌跡」(講談社)、その他雑誌等に原稿掲載多数。97年芸術選奨文部大臣賞、01年日本伝統文化振興賞、2017年松尾芸能賞大賞を受賞。東京藝術大学客員教授、筑波大学大学院非常勤講師。
